Music and Kinesiology Working Together
The body reacts to music and this can be demonstrated through muscle testing, more commonly known as Kinesiology.
Because music is non-verbal, it enters the auditory cortex and goes to the limbic system in our brain. The limbic system looks after blood pressure, pulse rate, and emotions amongst other functions. It can also balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain through the corpus colossum. The heart beat will tend to match the rhythm of music therefore if a slower piece of music is played the rate of a resting heart will slow our breathing rate and heart rate and change our brain wave pattern from beta to alpha.
Most people are totally unaware of the intricacies of human anatomy and physiology. Each vertebra in the spine has it’s own individual note and the following notes correspond to various parts of the body:
D flat Head (brain, pituitary, pineal)
E flat Throat
F# Lungs
G# Stomach
A Heart
C Intestines
D Kidneys
E Bladder
F Hips
G Knees
A Ankles
B Feet
We all have a keynote located in the base of our skull to which we respond, if it is played too loudly and harshly it can be detrimental to us and if played soothingly it can strengthen us.
Baroque music composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Vivaldi have a wonderful relaxing and calming effect on the body. It also helps us to improve our powers of concentration. In the womb, babies’ heart rates have invariably steadied when the mother has listened to Baroque music whereas babies kicked violently when rock music was playing. The four components of uplifting music are harmony, melody, rhythm and form; these have to be in good balance for the music to have a beneficial effect on the health of the listener.
Music can be used in a kinesiology treatment with clients who are mentally or physically stressed. A simple way to calm frazzled energies in the body is for the client to lie or sit with a small music speaker on the acupuncture point called Governing Vessel 4 (halfway between their navel and their pubic bone) for 4 – 8 minutes while baroque music is played through the speaker. This can help certain parts of the body that may have shut down due to stress whether the stress is: -
Ø Mental (relationships, work)
Ø Physical (pain, injuries)
Ø Chemical (food sensitivities, hormones)
Ø Energetic (meridian blockages, chakras)
Ø Environmental (pollution)
However the body is stressed will affect all of the above five on some level. Our body’s systems are designed to work together not as separate units and this is what we look to do using Kinesiology.
The use of music during a treatment can also be taken home with the client in a variety of ways. Either, the client can hum the note on a daily basis for a specific time or it could be included if required within a flower essence mix, this would be done myself within the treatment.
Clients have really felt the effect of a note being sounded around them during a treatment that incorporates balancing the charkas as it really does vibrate in a way that a lot of people are aware.
