Flower Remedies/Essences
What are Flower Essences?
Flower Essences are made from plants, they are used to help ease different emotions and states of mind. They can be taken singly or several combined together in a blended remedy. A gentleman called Dr Edward Bach who started off his career as a Harley Street Doctor then trained as a homeopath, was still not satisfied on how people were helped, so he then went on to do further extensive research into discovering the entire collection of Bach Flower Remedies. The aim of the flower remedies is to strip away layers of negative emotion until the core problem is uncovered so that too can be resolved. They encourage and strengthen the positive emotions we all possess but that can sometimes get hidden. There are 38 remedies in all (plus one a combination called Rescue Remedy) and the 38 are split into seven groups categorized as follows:-
q Fear,
q Uncertainty,
q Insufficient interest in present circumstances,
q Loneliness,
q Over sensitivity to influences and ideas,
q Despondency or despair
q Over caring for the welfare of others
All 38 remedies can be taken as mood remedies but some, in addition, are “type remedies” for specific personality types.
There are two methods of preparation, the sun method and the boiling method. The sun method involves the flowers from the plant being cut without being handled and dropped into a bowl of pure water and left to sit in the sun for 3 hours. This is generally done early in the morning about 9am and during late Spring/Early Summer when the plants are in bloom. The water then becomes energised from the flowers, the blooms are discarded and the water is then mixed with brandy to make a mother tincture. The plants that are tougher are used in the boiling method. The chosen cut plants are covered with still mineral water, boiled then stood outside until cold, strained and then mixed with brandy.
The Bach flower essences are very safe and do not have many contraindications. The following are just some of the essences and corresponding emotions:
Agrimony: For people who put on a brave face when struggling
Chestnut Bud: Fails to learn from mistakes
Elm: Overwhelmed, Doubt
Honeysuckle: Lives in the past, has regrets
Larch: Lack of Confidence (Good for exams!!!)
Essences can also be made from crystals and these can also be combined within treatments and given to help support emotionally.
Essences are an essential tool within the treatments and a large proportion of the clients I see go away with a tailor mixed bottle which they then take for a couple of weeks. People are so amazed at the difference that the can feel even within the treatment and in the days that follow. Negative emotions ease and positive feelings emerge, whether it be growing in confidence, or not feeling so cross without knowing why. Muscle testing using Kinesiology is a great way of identifying what you require specifically thereby aiding your progress.
